Hiking with your dog: a guide to Vallée des Trôs-Marets in Malmedy

When I saw the weather report, I knew we had to look for a a shady and cool area. An area ideally surrounded by water.

Hiking with our dog in les Ardennes

Odin, our beloved Border Collie, loves going on adventures but he is not so fond of hot sultry weather. We decided to open Komoot and search for the perfect hike. The outcome? Hike of the Vallée des Trôs-Marets in Malmedy, Belgium.

We packed our backback with plenty of water and snacks. Of course we left early to avoid walking when the sun is at its summit and to be there before the masses arrive. We started our hike at 09h30.

The scenic route

The landscape was varied: we came across little waterfalls, dense forests, stunning flower fields, babbling brooks, decking trails and had a beautiful panoramic view over the valley.

Practicalities of our hike in Vallée des Trôs-Marets

– Parking: Ferme Libert – parking spots in the street are freely accessible. Parking at the restaurant is for guests only.

– Bars and restaurants: close to the parking spot, there are several options. We bought a rewarding beverage and a delicious hamburger on the terrace of Ferme Libert.

– Route: we used Komoot to guide us. You can find the 12,6km route here. A short video of the diverse hike you can watch here.
